Heidi supervises the administrative staff and oversees day-to-day operations of the office, including building management and safety. She ensures IPO’s adherence to lab-wide policies and requirements, including developing reports for the Department of Energy. In addition, Heidi handles IPO’s human resource functions and provides orientation and initial training to new IPO employees.Heidi’s previous management experience includes positions as West Coast office manager of a software company and administrator of the Alameda/Contra Costa Ophthalmological Association. Jean handles new invention and software disclosures submitted to IPO’s Innovation Portal by Berkeley Lab researchers. She is also a point of contact for Gifts of funds or equipment to Berkeley Lab. In addition to supporting general IPO operations, Jean assists Partnerships Group contract officers to close out cases in eSRA, a Lab-wide proposal/contract database, and to update case files.Most recently, she managed projects and developed and reviewed contracts for private industry.

Julie handles special report requests for intellectual property and licensing data maintained by IPO. She led the IPO-wide project to implement Sophia, IPO’s database for inventions, intellectual property, and agreements for licensing, material transfer, and confidential discussions. She also ensures licensees comply with the terms of their agreements with Berkeley Lab.Her previous work experience includes administrative support for the USDA Forest Service, bookkeeping and contract compliance for the Winegrowers of CA, and contract writing for an international container leasing company. Hayden generates multiple finance reports regarding patent expenses, rebilling, and licensing income through Berkeley Lab’s Financial Management System (FMS) and Sophia, an IPO database. He also creates an extensive annual report on the distribution of royalty fees on licensed patented inventions and related Department of Energy reports.

He is responsible for reconciling accounts between Sophia and FMS and working with the Lab’s Chief Financial Office team to properly account for IPO costs and revenue.Most recently, Hayden worked as an associate management analyst for the City of Berkeley, managing grants and budgets for public health services. Before that, he worked as an accountant for the City and County of San Francisco in public health and the controller’s office. Shirounda handles the billing, rebilling and collections for the Patent and Licensing Teams. She also tracks and maintains incoming IPO income from royalties and licensing agreement fees. In addition, Shirounda completes special finance reporting projects for Berkeley Lab’s Office of Chief Finance Officer.Previously, she worked as a staff accountant for the UC Alumni Association and prior to that as an accounts payable/payroll supervisor for a software company in the Peninsula.

Suzanne builds awareness and interest in Berkeley Lab technologies and research capabilities with the goal of engaging potential industry partners. She also promotes IPO’s services to lab researchers interested in commercializing their inventions to benefit society. She manages the IPO’s website, social media presence, and marketing collateral. She is responsible for promoting new technologies for licensing or collaborative research to meet the lab’s Fairness of Opportunity requirement.Prior to joining the lab, she worked as a technical marketing writer and as a project manager at a water/ wastewater utility.
